My Favorite Movies Based in Italy
Here is a small list of my favorite movies based in Italy. Some of these may not be box office hits but I have loved them. Hope you enjoy :-)
1. Letters to Juliet- This is one of the movies that has a predictable storyline but because of its locations it took my heart away. I was obviously biased towards it because of Italy. Shot in Verona and several areas of Tuscany such as Montalcino and Siena, the movie takes the story of how an unanswered letter written fifty years ago could change two lives. Letters to Juliet is based on the book by the same name and 30 minutes after watching it you will find yourself falling in love with vineyards and ancient castles. A thorough romance!
2. A Roman Holiday- Who doesn't love Audrey Hepburn? And add the very suave and splendid Gregory Peck with a touch of Roma, that's Roman Holiday for you! I saw this classic almost ten years back and ever since I have been enthralled by Rome. This movie doesn't really have everything one wants for entertainment but it does have romance and drama and not to forget the beauty of Rome. Everything from the Spanish
Steps, Colloseum, Castel Sant'Angelo to the Trevi Fountain and The Pantheon has been captured here. Its indeed a Roman Holiday and a treat to the eyes.
3. The Italian Job- Another one of my favorites. A movie packed with everything- crime, action,
thrill, and love. The Italian Job was shot in Venice- the city of
romance. You will see shots of Campo San Barnaba, Rialto Bridge and St. Marks Square.
4. Under the Tuscan Sun- If you haven't seen this movie, I
highly recommend you to watch it. Yes guaranteed that it is not the same as the book but its still very charming! Shot in the beautiful hills of Cortona in Tuscany, it is the simple story of a woman finding love in the Italian hills. You will have a good enough peek into the Italian life when you watch it. Positano is another major advantage while watching it.
5. My House in Umbria- Maggie Smith does it again. Based on a
novel by the same name, the story was less than okay, but the clear countryside, cypress trees and
Umbrian villages were heavenly. The movie was also shot in Rome, Lazio, and Siena.
