Gaudi's Barcelona
If you are in Barcelona and havent seen the works of the late Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, you are missing on some very very unusual architecture. Gaudi's works are spanned across the entire city. Very different from the normal "art" that we are used to seeing, Gaudi's architecture is all about crooked houses from waste ceramics and glass which reminded me so much of Nek Chand's Rock Garden in Chandigarh.

Barcelona is all about Gaudi, really! Most notable out of them being the Sagrada Familia, a world famous Catholic church that will complete construction in 2026! News is that almost nine architects have continued work in this church after Gaudi's death. The construction of this church started in 1882.

Another remarkable place to visit that houses Gaudi's works is the Casa Mila, a residential building with crooked balconies and undulating stone.

I was also lucky to visit the famous Park Guell on the El Carmel hill which I was initially planning to skip. However, it turned out to be quite a surprise. Guell is easily accessible from the city. A 2 euro ride in the city bus and voila you are at Guell!

The beautiful complex is surrounded with Gaudi house (now turned into a museum) and intricate albeit weird architecture with gentle music in the background and many people selling jewellry and souvenirs. Guell is also well known for the two houses which seem to be taken right out of the German fairy tale- Hansel and Gretel. The entry to Park Guell is free although if you want to visit the Gaudi house you have to pay a minor entrance fee.
