Flavors of Italy!
If there was one best thing that I had to pick about this beautiful little shoe shaped country, it would be the food. I immediately fell in love with the authentic Italian food. Although Italian food is common and well known across all parts of the world, the food in the country was unlike the way we cook.
For instance, their breakfast consists of a small cup of hot caffe or dark coffee with some cookies or a simple croissant/cornetto. In several parts of Chianti (near Tuscany) people drink red wine as a traditional breakfast item. They are also very fond of soft fluffy breads.
The lunch in Italy however is GRAND. Lunch or Pranzo consists of pizzas, panini, ravioli, gnochhi, sea food, spaghetti, meat, risotto and the likes.
One of the most interesting food items that I had on my visit was a black squid ink spaghetti, a dish famous in Venice. It was different and salty and left a lot of black "ink" on your lips and mouth but I loved the experience.
A few tips:
-Always have different flavors of Gelato in any part of Italy.
-Wine in Italy is different, delicious, and worth buying.
-Eat plain bread with meals.
-Try seafood and steaks.
-Have ONLY wine with your meals. Say no to Coke and other beverages.
-No trip is complete without a bottle of Pesto from the country of love.
