Rome was Not Built in a Day-Part II

A major facet of Rome is its numerous fountains. You find them on almost every street; while turning a narrow alley, by a major monument, or they'l probably surprise you in an area you never thought you would find them. 

The Trevi is one such alluring fountain of Rome. Built in the 18th century, the Trevi Fountain is an 86 feet high structure. It is one of the most photographed fountains of the city. Set amidst a crowded street, this Baroque style fountain is a must place to visit. It is believed that if you drop a coin in the water of this fountain with your right hand over your left shoulder, you will surely come back to Rome ;-)

Moor Fountain

Rome is a dreamy city, with all the sprawling fountains and amazing backdrop, it leaves you wanting for more. There are several other fountains in the city but the ones that really caught my fancy were in Piazza Navona, a bustling square of Rome. The Piazza is home to three lovely fountains- The Fountain of Four Rivers, the Fountain of Neptune, and the Moor fountain.

This busy square features a 17th century church- Sant'Angese in Agone. The interiors of the church are filled with lavish sculptors and frescoes, including the skull of Sant'Agnese.

Another remarkable fountain in Rome is the Fountain of Pantheon standing right next to the Pantheon- a Roman temple 2000 years old! The street by this temple is unforgettable and surreal. It has the best coffee shops and live music that you can find anywhere in Rome. It almost took me back to live Hepburn's Roman Holiday.

I also visited the Fountain of the Old Boat - a cute little fresh water fountain sitting below the Trinita dei Monti church. This fountain falls right outside the famous Spanish Steps, a staircase of 135 steps that lead to the church.

A quick tip- the water from these fountains is safe to drink so don't get surprised if you see people filling their water bottles near Trevi or Pantheon. Surely a great way to save some euros!
